GUA KELAM - PERLIS


The peaceful town of Kaki Bukit is home to Gua Kelam literally translated Dark Caves The 370 meters long cave passage is well lit and is believed to have been hollowd out from limestone massif by an underground stream over many eons.A wooden walkway stretching the entire lenght of the cave wa enlarged in 1935 by a resident Englishman to serve as a route for the transportation of tin ore.It is now a convenient way for local folk travelling on motorcycles to get from Kaki Bukit to the Wan Tangga Valley and vice versa.

Buatong



while in Mae Hong son you should never miss a chance to visit a buatong(Mexican Sunflower) field.If you travel from Chiangmai to Mae Hong Son by highway in the period from november to december about one hour after passing Khunyuam County,you will be fascinated to see a sea of golden Mexican Sunflowers blooming along both sides of the road over the rolling hills for miles.

These wild flowers called Buatong in the nothern dialet look exactly like sunflowers but are much smaller.Having its origin in Latin America and the west Indies buatong was brought by chirtstian missionaries to grow on Doi Mae U-kho some 70 years ago.The plant started to attract tourists in 1988.Since then Doi Mae U-kho has become popular with tourists and the buatong has been recognized as a symbol of Mae Hong son Province.



During the mentioned period you are allowed to put up a tent near a buatong field to get as close as possible to the flowers in their cool surroundings.Futhermore a buatong photograph competation a mountain bike racing and cultural perfomances are usually organized during the period to assure that you will have great time.

Ifugao Rice Terraces Luzon Philippines
